The Istrian Riviera
Golf holidays in Istria
Istria is known as one of the sunniest destination in Europe and best suited for a game of golf and although golf is relatively new Istria it wins more and more golf fans. Combined with the unspoilt and enchanting Adriatic Coast, we think it’s a great destination for keen golfers or for those who want to explore and take in a few rounds of golf while on holiday.
GOLF IN THE ADRIATIC
The Adriatic coast is quickly becoming one of Europe’s top golf pro destinations according to golf club reviews. Many of you will ask, where actually is the Adriatic coast? Well, the Adriatic is shared between three different countries, Italy, Slovenia and Croatia and is home to some of Europe’s top golf courses. These golf courses are located on a peninsula, Istria, which is the largest peninsula in the Adriatic Sea.
The Adriatic is a perfect place to play golf for several reasons. Firstly, it boasts a fantastic Mediterranean climate all year round and is renowned for being one of the sunniest destinations in Europe. In the winter months (December, January and February) temperatures range from 7 to 14°C, and in the summer Istrian temperatures vary from 25 to 28 ° C in the north and 26 to 30 °C on the coast. It is said that golf holidays are ideal in the Adriatic anywhere between March and October, but it really is a place where hassle free golf can be played all year round and there is no wonder so many golf players have already made the trip.
TOP GOLF COURSES
In terms of golf basics, golfers are spoilt for choice playing golf, with some of the most famous golf courses in their respective countries. One of the top golf courses in the region is Golf Adriatic, located on the Croatian side of the Istrian peninsula, which is a great place to show off your golf swings and your golf shots. Home to many junior golf and county golf tournaments, the course was designed by Diethard Fahrenleitner and is an 18-hole, par 72 course.
Another crown where golfers can show off their golf style is the Golf Club Trieste, one of the best golf clubs located in Italy. Ideal for PGA golf pros and beginners alike, you can be sure to pull out your best golf clubs at this fantastic golf Club. The course is neatly situated in a tranquil oasis between the blue sea and snow-covered Alp peeks, making this golf course a real hit with golfers, it would even be suitable for PGA golf players like Tiger Woods golf himself. If we add to that the exceptionally sunny location, the course is even more tempting.
OTHER TOP GOLF COURSES
There are also some other outstanding and challenging golf courses in the area that can be easily combined with golfing in the Adriatic i.e. golf course Grado and Lignano, located further north along the Adriatic coast, golf course Arboretum, golf course Diners International in Ljubljana and the magical King's course Bled in Lake Bled.

Two holidays in one
I forgot to send you a thank note. Anyhow, everything went well and we did have a really nice holiday. Since Bled and Istria were so different type of destinations it almost felt like “two holidays in one”. Got also six rounds of nice golf in.
Not overly focusing on golf was the right call as there were so many other fun ways to spend a day in both places (went hiking around Lake Bohinj, really cool day trips to Piran and Portoroz, just hanging out at the Kempinski beach).
We also had the crazy good luck with weather (sunny practically all the time while it was a super-rainy week in Finland)
Thanks again,
Juha-Pekka Espoo, Finland, June 2016
